PUBLIC GUARDIAN

Public Guardian offers several services. In all cases Public Guardian only becomes involved when no one else is available to help. It serves people who would likely become subjects of fraud and abuse. The Public Guardian is not an emergency response agency. For emergencies concerning adults contact Adult Protective Services (APS). For emergencies concerning children contact Child Protective Services (CPS).

PROBATE CONSERVATORSHIP
People, generally elderly, who are unable to handle their financial or personal affairs due to medically bases deficiencies, and would be subjects of fraud or abuse are served by Probate Conservatorships administered according to the Probate Code, beginning with section 1400 provides detailed information and it is available for PURCHASE here. LPS CONSERVATORSHIP

People needing help because of grave disability as a result of mental disorder are served by LPS Conservatorships administered according to the Welfare & Institutions Code-LPS Act beginning with section 5000 of the WELFARE & INSTITUTION CODE. A brief description is available here.

GUARDIANSHIP

Guardianships protect the financial and personal well being of minors who would otherwise be vulnerable to fraud or abuse based on their immaturity. Guardianships are administered according to the Probate Code. Parker’s California 2006 Probate Code, beginning with section 1400, provides detailed information and it is available for PURCHASE here. CONSERVATORSHIP INVESTIGATION OFFICE

The Conservatorship Investigation Office (CIO) examines both Probate and LPS conservatorship referrals and then makes a recommendation about the need for conservatorship to the Superior Court of Riverside County. REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE

Representative Payee works closely with other Department of Mental Health units to serve less severely impaired people with mental disorder. Representative Payee provides budgeting and money management to enable its clients to maintain themselves in independent living situations appropriate to their needs.

PUBLIC GUARDIAN AUCTIONS

Several times a year the Public Guardian holds auctions. The purpose of these sales is to dispose of property conservatees can no longer put to use and to make the value of these personal assets available to maintain an appropriate level of care.
