DETENTION MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

A mental health response team is available to address life threatening situations such as suicidal ideation or attempts in the jails. All referred individuals receive a mental health evaluation to determine the presence of a psychiatric problem and identify the services required. Medication services are provided as needed. Follow up mental health referrals for outpatient services are provided.

MENTAL HEALTH COURT

This program assists the court in providing appropriate assessment and placement of criminal defendants suffering from a mental illness. Mental Health Courts support and implement individualized treatment plans and case management. Services are delivered in an effective and safe manner with the objective of safeguarding the public and reducing recidivism.

VETERANS COURT

On January 5, 2012, Veteran’s Court convened for the very first time in Department 31 under the leadership of Superior Court Judge Mark Johnson.  Veteran’s Court is a joint effort between the Riverside County Superior Court, Veteran’s Administration (VA), and several Riverside County and City agencies including the District Attorney, Public Defender, Probation, Mental Health, Riverside Police Department, and other county Veteran agencies.  The Court specifically addresses the needs of Riverside County Veterans charged with criminal offenses, and it is a 12 to 18 month program that provides treatment and rehabilitation to Veterans. Cases are taken by referral only.

MISDEMEANANT ALTERNATIVE PLACEMENT (MAP)

The MAP Program, under Mental Health Court, performs evaluation and treatment services as specified in Penal Code 1367 and 1367.1. If a defendant is found to be mentally incompetent for a misdemeanor offense, the court requests an evaluation for placement by the M.A.P. program. The MAP Clinical Therapist is required to prepare a written evaluation on the most appropriate placement and treatment plan for the misdemeanant.
